Caracalla- Septimus Bassianus, later Marcus Aurelius Antoninus was born on April 4, AD 186. The son of Septimus Severus and Julia Domna. The name Caracalla was a nickname derived from a long tunic of Galic origin which he adopted as his favorite dress. He was proclaimed emperor in AD 198 and Caesar in AD 196 and in 198 he was created Augustus, although only ten years of age. After the death of their father, Caracalla and his brother Geta reigned jointly until Caracalla had his brother assassinated along with many other distinguished Romans. His reign was marked by extravagance and cruelty. He was murdered by the orders of Macrinus.
