An upright bottle with a spout on the shoulder of the vessel, the kendi was used as far back as the eighth century. “Kendi” a malay word, was derived from the word “kundika” meaning “water pot”. Designed to be filled through the large opening in the vessel and poured from the small spout, these ancient ceramic “jugs” were made for both ceremonial and utilitarian use.

The Sukhothai Kingdom existed from 1238 till 1438 was an early kingdom around the city Sukhothai, located in north central Thailand.
