The Buffalo is considered sacred as is the cow to those of the Hindu faith in India. Domesticated for over 5000 years, 97% of over water buffalo are found in Asia providing 5% of the world’s milk supply and forming an integral part of that continent’s traditional village farming structure.
According to Hindu lore, the god of death Yama, rides on a male water buffalo and the carabao subspecies is considered national symbol in the Philippines.
