Description
After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor special silver certificate notes were issued with the overprint Hawaii. The serial numbers and treasury seal were changed in color from blue to brown. This was done as a precaution so that in the event of a Japanese invasion the currency could be declared invalid.
For US troops deployed to North Africa special silver certificate notes with a gold treasury seal in place of the traditional blue seal were issued. Should any of this currency fall into enemy hands it could be declared invalid.
