The American Platinum Eagle is the first platinum coin To be issued by the U.S. Mint. First issued in 1997, the Platinum Eagle is official legal tender guaranteed by the U.S. government. The obverse depicts the Statue of Liberty and the year of manufacture. The reverse shows an eagle in flight, the monetary value and the purity of 99.95%.
