If you want to find lost cities or the traces of ancient civilizations, Sarah Parcak believes you need to head into space.
The professor of archaeology at the University of Alabama is a space archaeologist who uses satellite imagery to map and locate previously unknown archaeological sites in the Middle East, Europe, and across the Mediterranean.
Using the technique, she has discovered entire cities, temples and pyramids beneath the sands.
Prof. Parcak tells BBC Future about her vision for the future and why she believes that an understanding the past is crucial to the survival of mankind.
