The world coin collecting community will descend on Chicago once again in April, as Krause Publications plays host to the 38th annual Chicago International Coin Fair. CICF is set for April 18-21 at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare, located near Chicago’s international airport.
“It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since we last left our CICF friends, but here we are, ready for another great show,” said Scott Tappa, CICF convention chairman and KP numismatics publisher. “All indications are that the world coin market is going strong, and we look forward to bringing dealers and collectors together in the same room to do business.”
The CICF will once again feature nearly 100 exhibiting entities, including dealers, auction houses, publishers and clubs. Tableholders hail from 25 states and 10 countries. For a list of CICF dealers visit www.cicfshow.com.
“This is not just any other local or regional coin show, this is a truly international event,” said Tappa. “The diversity in exhibitors and attendees is a special component of CICF. It would not be an exaggeration to say that there is something for everyone.”
Heritage Auctions is putting together another fantastic CICF auction. Cris Bierrenbach, who heads the Heritage world coin department, estimates the sale will contain more than 5,800 lots and around $10 million of material, with Brazilian items one of the highlights.
“The centerpiece of any event like CICF is a compelling auction, and once again Heritage delivers,” said Tappa. “This is the fourth year of the Heritage-CICF partnership, and we think it has worked out very well for both parties.”

The Everycountry Collectors Group, American Numismatic Society, Chicago Coin Club, International Primitive Money Society, Bermanian Guild of Numismatists and Ancient Coin Club of Chicago will hold sessions, with speakers such as David Hendin, David Michaels, Bruce Smith and Mike Gasvoda.
CICF will open for dealer setup at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18, with early bird Professional Preview admission at 2 p.m. Professional Preview admission costs $50. General public admission ($5) will run 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20, and 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. Sunday, April 21 (dealer participation may be limited).
