The American Silver Eagle bullion coin was first released in 1986 and contains one troy ounce of .999 silver and has a monetary value of $1.00. It is authorized by the United States Congress and backed by the U.S. Mint for weight and content. The obverse has the Walking Liberty design used on USA half Dollars from 1916 through 1947. The reverse design is a rendition of a heraldic eagle. Note that American Silver Eagles can be used to fund IRA investments.
