Bronze Buffalo Head Necklace

In the 15th and 17th centuries much of the trans-Saharan trade passed through Djenne. The town is famous for its distinctive adobe architecture, most notable the Great Mosque built in 1907. Djenne was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.
