Natural silica glass thought to have formed as a result of a natural meteor or comet impacting the earth, blasting sand into the atmosphere which fell back to the earth as glass. The surface texture is from the wind-blown sand of the desert.
Known to the ancient Egyptians, who used it in jewelry. It was also used to make Paleolithic tools dating about 10,000 years ago.
